Soundings activity: January & February 2013

2013 is under way here at Soundings, and we’ve been busy as ever! Here are some project updates which tell you a little bit about the community engagement and consultation work we’ve been doing recently…

KINGS ROAD

Soundings are carrying out the consultation for the proposed redevelopment of 200-222 Kings Road.

The site forms part of Cadogan’s Chelsea Estate and Cadogan are proposing to create a new mixed-use development, including providing a new cinema and pub on the existing site.

Soundings have carried out several pop-up street consultation events, and in December held the first exhibition in the consultation hub at 186 Kings Road. This involved introducing the key principles, presenting the findings from the pop-up events and gathering feedback on initial design concepts. A further exhibition and community liaison group meeting will follow in the next month.

MAKING ECCLESTON PLACE

In 2012 Soundings were busy gathering ideas from local residents, visitors and key stakeholders about the future of Eccleston Place in Southern Belgravia.

The consultation process is now complete and a final report is being compiled which will feed into Grosvenor’s masterplan vision.

PINEWOOD STUDIOS DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK

On 1st February 2013 Pinewood submitted a planning application to South Bucks District Council (SBDC) for the expansion of the Studios.

Following 6 months of consultation, Soundings compiled the comments and views of the community and local stakeholders into the Statement of Community Involvement, which was submitted to SBDC alongside the planning application.

It is intended that the Community Liaison Group, who have acted as a sounding board for the design development, will continue to meet and discuss matters relating to the application.

We would like to say thank you to those who have taken part in the consultation process for the Development Framework for Pinewood Studios.

An update on Industri[us]

Industri[us] is an initiative set up in early 2011 by Soundings’ sister company – Fluid. Centered around ‘upcycling’ and regeneration, it seeks to put vacant sites to creative interim use in advance of commercial development taking place. It was a winning entry in the Meanwhile London competition run by Property Week in partnership with the Mayors of London and Newham.

Developed in collaboration with local organisations and delivery partners, the project delivered in Canning Town provided work experience and paid training opportunities for young people and long-term unemployed. It also supported a number of existing upcycling businesses and start-ups, making and selling products from furniture and art to jewellery and fashion.

The summer of 2012 saw the Industri[us] Festival of Upcycling at Canning Town. With live bands and artists performing; designers and makers showcasing their wares; and a street food market delivered by Urban Feasts.

The project was created entirely from borrowed, used or reusable materials – from pavers from the nearby Olympics roadworks to plants, materials and whole gardens from the Chelsea Flower Show. Two temporary public squares were created, along with the street-market and a striking scaffolded pavilion to house the upcycling market and events.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their help and support in getting this project off the ground.

PINEWOOD STUDIOS DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK

Soundings has been compiling the Statement of Community Involvement that will be submitted alongside Pinewood Studio’s outline planning application before the end of the year.

This will document the entire consultation process undertaken since June 2012 and will record the comments and views of the community and local stakeholders.

We would like to say thank you to all those who have taken part in the consultation process for Pinewood Studios Development Framework.

SHAPING WOOD WHARF

The Shaping Wood Wharf exhibitions and workshops took place in mid-October, and provided a very helpful steer from the community as to how the plans should develop. We are busy analysing the data from the feedback captured here and in our initial walk and talk and canvass card discussions, and will share this with the masterplanning team and local community shortly.

The Final Masterplan was presented to community groups in July of this year and the architect team have been working hard towards a planning application submission this winter. Our next series of events takes place in early November, with our Community Liaison Group reconvening next week for a preview of the final architecture and discussions around the cultural uses and ground floor uses of the site: how will it look and feel at a human scale in the future?

MY BRENTFORD

The Land South of the High Street & Waterfront – Brentford planning application was submitted to LB Hounslow Council in September 2012. The Statutory Consultation process then began, and in order to help local people gain access to all of the plans in one place alongside images of the scheme and models, Ballymore Group commissioned Soundings to stage an exhibition in a local cafe on the High Street, to allow people to see the plans and give their representations to LB Hounslow through a simple feedback form. A total of 185 people attended the exhibition over the course of four days.

Soundings activity: September

September sees us busily working on various projects, at different stages.

SHAPING WOOD WHARF, ISLE OF DOGS

Soundings have been appointed by Canary Wharf Group Plc to help facilitate a public consultation on new proposals for the redevelopment of Wood Wharf. There is now an opportunity to reconsider the approved masterplan: Wood Wharf has the chance to develop into a more significant place by varying the commercial offer with greater diversity of workplaces, new neighbourhoods and a new mixed-use district. A series of public walk and talks and pop-up street consultation events are being staged over the coming weeks, followed by our first workshops in early October. Find out more here: www.shapingwoodwharf.com

LONDON DOCK, WAPPING

London Dock is the name for the former News International site in Wapping which is now owned by St George. We are consulting with the local population of Wapping for the London Dock project which has just launched, with our first exhibition held on 8th September. Over 200 people have engaged with the process so far and we are building towards design workshops next week. Find out more here: www.londondockconsultation.co.uk

MAKING ECCLESTON PLACE

We are working with Grosvenor to gather ideas from local residents, businesses and stakeholders to inform the vision for a new neighbourhood in southern Belgravia that people can be proud of. A series of pop-up events are taking place across the area from Tuesday 18th September through to Monday 24th. For more information, please visit: www.makingecclestonplace.com

DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK FOR PINEWOOD STUDIOS

We would like to thank those who attended the second series of workshops about the development framework for Pinewood Studios, which took place earlier this week. A drop-in exhibition is being held today and tomorrow, for anyone who was not able to make it to have a chance to share their views.
